Today the CW officially cancelled the best display on television (understandably, some would say, due to abysmally outrageous ratings) . There lingers a chance that the series might be revitalized in a different produce, but the hammer has officially fallen. Veronica Mars is unceremoniously over.

Season 3 was the first (and last) season of the display to air on the fledgling CW network. It took a different reach to storytelling than seasons 1 and 2, featuring two separate mystery arcs and a number of one-episode mysteries, rather the season-long affairs for which the prove had become known and loved. Despite the change, season 3 works as valid, bewitching television. The writing is witty and the acting in inspiring, as before.

The creator of the point to, Pick Thomas, once heard the series described as “Chinatown meets Heathers.” That’s a perfect description. I would say it also owes heavily to Twin Peaks. Chinatown happens to be my all-time current movie. I’m a noir junky, and V-Mars serves it up in lusty, lipsticked, smoke-tinted glory with every episode. Many people are turned off by the view of a high school/college girl solving mysteries. And they should be. As a premise, this exhibit would easily fail in the hands of most producers. But Thomas and co-writers have created something magical and perfect here. The heroine Veronica is sarcastic, at times mean, overly hard-boiled, and corpulent of acerbic wit. There’s nothing candy-coated about Veronica. First time viewers often disregard the exhibit as “another teen drama,” and for this reason more than any other it failed to attract a sustaining audience. I hurry you to give it a chance. Especially if you have a sarcastic mind, if you’ve lost faith in the basically superb nature of humanity, if noir interests you, or if you honest like an radiant mystery or exceptionally well-acted drama, this may be what you’re looking for. It was for me.

Admittedly, I behold very dinky television, but to set aside things in perspective this is a short list of the TV shows I’ve watched and loved over the years: Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Freaks and Geeks, Deadwood, and Wonderfalls. I would area Veronica Mars at the top of this toothsome heap. (Actually, looking at that list, every indicate was cancelled before its time build BSG which is composed on the air. Maybe that says something. Maybe not.) Recently, my wife and I started re-watching season 1 and 2 of Veronica Mars with a friend. His comment after one episode was this, “This present shouldn’t be on television. It’s too… involving, too blooming.” I couldn’t have said it any better. Unfortunately, our friend was fair in the extinguish. V-Mars was too sharp, too delicate. And now it’s gone.

Heads-up: This review is for the S3 DVD station as a DVD status, and not an editorial about the quality of Season 3. (For the represent, I’d give most S3 episodes a solid 4-stars) This review is more for the VM fans who don’t need to be “sold” on the series, but are deciding whether to shell-out $45 for the DVDs, given that the last 2 DVD sets were pleasing skimpy on the extras.

The Season 3 DVD position, while it mild doesn’t have commentaries (not everyone is as chatty as Matt Groening and Co., I guess), it finally includes a few tall behind-the-scenes extras, most notably, a 90-minute (or so) discussion with Hold Thomas, who walks us through clips and explains his choices. Very episode commentary-like, honest more efficient– you go through a lot of advantageous clips from the whole season.

Chapters from the RT commentary I especially liked were on well-liked guest characters, well-liked pairings (Veronica and her dad; VM and Logan; VM and Duncan was not included here, mercifully) .

It also includes RT’s 14-minute mini-episode presentation for the CW heads that takes Veronica to the FBI in season 4. It’s fun to search for, even if it DOES earn you kind of dim because it never came to fruition, and instead you now have to sit through a whole convoluted thing of Heroes to contemplate Kristen Bell on TV for 3 minutes. (Hypothetically, of course, as Heroes is, like, awesome!)

In conclusion, a suited rob for established VM fans who wished for extras on the S1 and S2 DVDs.

While some have ridiculed this Sherlock Holmes’ parody, I cherish it and rejoice at its long-awaited DVD release. Made in 1975, droll man Gene wilder wrote, directed and starred in the film, which also boasts the incomparable talents of the gradual and truly lamented Madeline Kahn and Marty Feldman. It also stars Dom DeLuise and Leo (Rumpole of the Bailey) McKern.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother! Click Here

Wilder, a well-schooled actor in parodies having starred earlier in his career with Kahn and Feldman in Mel Brooks’ classic and beloved “Young Frankenstein,” turned is much skills to form this loving send-up of the world’s most well-known sleuth. Wilder was well-equipped to do so as he is a life-long Conan Doyle fan and bonafide member of the Baker Street Irregulars, a renowned real-life Sherlockian scholarly society whose members include Christopher Morley. (In this film, Brooks has a cameo role, but he is heard and not seen.)

In this Victorian era film, Wilder portrays Sigerson Holmes, the “smarter” but very jealous younger brother of the vivid Consulting Detective, whom he derisively refers to as “Sheer-luck.” (In the Conan Doyle canon, “Sigerson” was an alias Sherlock Holmes traditional during his “missing years” after his falsely believed death-plunge at the Richenback Falls at the hands of his gross nemesis, Professor James Moriarty; while Mycroft Holmes was actually Sherlock’s smarter brother.)

In the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother, Sigerson begins an investigation, at the put a question to of Sherlock, into the disappearance of a valuable cache of government documents. Sherlock and Dr. John Watson leave England to depart to the Continent on another assignment, apparently confounded by the missing document mystery.

Kahn, who in her life was a classically trained singer, was given the opportunity to showcase her impressive vocal talents as Jenny Hill/Bessie Underwood/Opera singer, a compulsive liar and Sigerson’s adore interest. The film is well worth watching if for nothing else than a zany drawing room musical scene when Sigerson and Jenny first meet, which culminates in the truly unforgettable, “Kangaroo Hop.”

Feldman is Sigerson’s Watson, Sgt. Orville Sacker of Scotland Yard who possesses “photographic hearing,” and who, along with Jenny, back Sigerson recover the documents and thwart Moriarty (with some invaluable behind-the-scenes assistance from Sherlock Holmes!)

McKern is wonderfully nasty as the novel Moriarty, while DeLuise is a bumbling blackmailer.

This film is fun, wacky, sweet and very off-beat. Kudos to Wilder for choosing to enlist his former partners Kahn and Feldman, providing yet another permanent chapter in their unforgettable and immortal careers!

Gene Wilder’s “The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother” has a novel snap & sparkle, with a thread of insanity, that makes it one of my popular film comedies. While very comical and often irreverant, the film pays affectionate tribute to the extraordinary Conan Doyle franchise of Holmes’ stories. It is also well-produced, with brooding photography and impartial depictions of period London settings. But perhaps the best thing about “Holmes’ Smarter Brother” is its zany cast, from Marty Feldman, Madelaine Kahn and Wilder himself, to wonderfully crazed performances by Leo McKern as the rank Dr. Moriarty and Dom DeLuis as a bizarrely-affected opera impressario. This film is first rate FUN and should become a classic in the comedic vein of Mel Brooks’”Young Frankenstein”, “Blazing Saddles” and “High Panic”. I highly recommend “Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother” and hope we can all soon add it to our DVD collections.

Unlike “Mystery Science Theater 3000″ and the Film Crew DVDs, for Rifftrax there is no fictional premise. Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett have not been shot into space; they are not minimum wage workers at a DVD authoring factory. Instead they’re unbiased doing what they did for years on MST3k, sitting around watching movies and making fun of them.

Buy,Download, Or Stream RiffTrax Shorts Volume 1 – from the stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000!! Click Here

This single DVD collection puts together eight short films which had previously been for sale via the Rifftrax website plus one bonus short.

1) Down and Out — A typical factory worker safety training film. The multiple slapstick accidents are mostly fodder for encouraging workers to expend their well-liked sense. And if well-liked sense was a commodity that could be easily transferred upon people using television, this film probably would have been very successful.

2) Patriotism — This early 1970s film, narrated by Bob Crane, teaches children about how to be patriotic in their everyday lives. Fortunately, it turns out that virtually everything you would ever dream of doing is a design of patriotism.

3) Buying Food — This short film is exactly what it sounds like from its title: rather trite, funny explanations about how one should and shouldn’t take foodstuffs.

4) Just or Snide? — One share choose-your-own-adventure fable and one allotment introductory ethics course.

5) Drugs are Like That — This REEFER MADNESS type film is aimed at teenagers and children. As you may question, it’s a rather heavy-handed screed pinning all human suffering and unhappiness at the foot of drug abuse.

6) Skipper Learns a Lesson — In this short about teaching children to embrace diversity, Skipper the dog is an wonderful misanthrope who hates all those around him.

7) The Worry With Women — This 1947 instructional film isn’t quite as abominable as its title would suggest. It’s not a pure rant against the female gender; instead, it’s a guide for male bosses about how to handle the influx of women into the workplace in a post-WWII America.

8) It Must Be the Neighbors — Every quandary in a neighborhood can be blamed on someone else. Usually the guy who has a load of filth and junk in his yard.

9) Shake Hands With Disaster — Another safety instructional film where those unfortunately workers who ignore favorite precautionary measures demolish up slow or mutilated in various gory ways. This Rifftrax features an keen Mike Nelson, and Bill Corbett in the originate of a cartoon inflatable parrot with Kevin Murphy as an anthropomorphic box of popcorn (I’m not making that up) . The jokes are amusing, but I didn’t quite spy the purpose of the animation. I suspect this was an experimental attempt to recreate something like the old-fashioned shadowrama execute, but for me it was fair more of a distraction which subtracted the size of the viewable image without really adding anything.

The jokes and riffs are quite humorous. The spacious inquire of I suspect most fans are keen in is whether these Rifftrax releases match up to what we remember from “Mystery Science Theater 3000″. One thing I’ve missed (which I reflect is also applicable to The Film Crew and — to a lesser extent — Joel Hodgson’s Cinematic Tall DVDs) is the sheer breadth of material which the writers drew on for inspiration on the worn expose. With fewer writers, it seems that the jokes are taken from a smaller pool of references.

So, I’d status this release at about the level of an average episode of MST3k. While this may sound like hollow praise, I’d keep an average episode of MST3k well above the comedy output we perceive from most sitcoms. I’d recommend this to any fan of MST3k or even to anyone who never caught the present when it was running. It’s astronomical to hear Mike, Kevin and Bill once again making fun of incomprehensible and dated mature short films.

I know many fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000 enjoyed when the crew tackled short films. From the immortal “Mr. B Natural” to the bizarre “Out of This World”, MST3K has provided some of their best humor in short subjects.

The trend continues with Rifftrax first volume of shorts. Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett roam honest into these short films with indulge in and preserve the laughs coming rapidly and inflamed.

Here are my descriptions and ratings out of 5.

Down and Out – is a simple safety film. If you’ve ever suffered through these before, then you’ll glean plenty to be pleased including how to avoid stepping on sidewalk chalk, how to employ giant prop tools and of course how to trot around the work plot completely oblivious to your surroundings. The terrible dope in this video probably ended up in traction by the slay.

4 out of 5

Patriotism – A 1970’s film that explains to you, the child, how to be patriotic. Luckily all you have to do is smart up the neighbor’s yard, write to your local city or residence representative about traffic hazards or unprejudiced maintain off the grass when the trace says sustain off the grass. Yeah, I don’t know how it’s patriotic either, but Bob Crane says it is, so he must be fair… moral?

3 out of 5

Buying Food – Bill explodes into a fear when he forgets how to grasp food, but this movie saves his bacon with superior hints like don’t pick a metric ton of oysters for dinner, or read the labels of cans to acquire out what’s inside them. A very well-behaved film for anyone who is out witted by one celled animals. A highlight of the disc.

5 out of 5

Right or Nefarious – A warehouse is vandalized. Suddenly we are thrown in a correct quandary: will the night watchman turn in the delinquent kids? Will the owner press charges? Will the one child who is caught turn in his friends? Will you really care? Not really. One of the few musty shorts on this dwelling.

2 out of 5

Skipper Learns a Lesson – Skipper the dog hates other dogs that don’t peer, sound or smell like him. Well guess what Mr. Racist Dog, you’re going to derive yours! Not only is the whole short film exceedingly goofy, but the Rifftrax team has a field day with this one.

5 out of 5

The Anxiety With Women – It seems that a nebbish man has a jam working with women. Well he goes to his boss and complains. We net examples of how women fair aren’t as sterling as men, and how his boss tries to change his mind. Oddly enough this seems too short to really milk laughs out of. Has some really laughable moments but they are too few.

2 out of 5

Drugs are Like That – Two kids with hearing problems discuss how drugs can screw up your life. All the while a disembodied grunt points out uncommon facts and Legos are dilapidated as a visual wait on. This short gets funnier and funnier as it goes along and the riffing team is in top fabricate. My approved of the disc.

5 out of 5

It Must Be the Neighbors – Is disease spreading around your suburb? Then blame the neighbors! Ignore the fact that you have mosquito breeding grounds in your relieve yard and your trash cans are falling apart. It’s up the neighborhood kids to regain things relieve into shape.

3 out of 5

Shake Hands with Worry – This time we gather a safety film from the 1970’s revolving around construction equipment. There is musical state over by a guy trying really hard to be Johnny Cash, and lots of maiming and death. Seriously you glean bloody chunks in this film. The song “Shake Hands with Pain” is worth it alone, but the rest of the short is pleasing amusing as well. This is the episode that contains the computer though-provoking avatars for Mike, Kevin and Bill. Kinda outlandish, but not too distracting.

4 out of 5

Total grade: 4 out of 5

Now I know that when it comes to MST3K, my five star episode can be someone’s one star episode. I do contemplate that if you enjoyed the work of these three gentlemen (especially their more unique and more snarky work), you will relish this disc. It’s a solid 100 minutes of entertainment and makes for spacious viewing with friends. It’s also a expansive spot to inaugurate for anyone original to Rifftrax – there is enough variety here to hold everyone laughing.

I am SOOO gay this came to DVD! I had to bewitch it the Runt it came out! It has all the episodes from the first season! The animation looks gigantic. A heck of a lot better than on some of my tapes of MLP.

Buy,Download, Or Stream My Little Pony – The Complete First Season! Click Here

The only complaint I have is about the two “pilot” episodes, “Rescue at Midnight Castle” and “Flee from Catrina.” These were originally television specials. In 1986, the Powers That Be edited them as episodes of the MLP TV series. The versions on the DVD are the edited TV indicate versions.

But even with the edited specials, this DVD status is worth it.

I cannot open to drawl my joy at finally having these episodes on DVD after all these years. If you never watched My Petite Pony, it was a petite more alive to than you might have imagined with exact plots and adventures rather than unbiased fluff. There are a few episodes that are oddly sunless for a present about aesthetic ponies but there is nothing edgier than you would perceive on any point to aimed at young girls. My joy at finally having these on DVD, however, is overshadowed by my frustration that they finally released Rescue from Midnight Castle (or Firefly’s Adventure depending on your generation) and Flee from Catrina (the DVD incorrectly spells this Katrina) but edited them. What is the point of releasing them on DVD at all if you are only going to edit them! We now have to wait for them to either re-release these two specials on DVD unedited or fill onto our falling apart VHS copies. Beyond that frustration, the production values on the genuine DVD’s itself are abominable. The box has odd pictures of G2 ponies rather than a screenshot from the prove and the genuine DVD cases have their labels attach on backwards. The entire situation looks like something someone could have made in his or her basement. A few fans with a color printer could have done this up distinguished classier and we would have known to assign G1 ponies on it rather than G2. I drawl this is fair the nature of the double edged sword that is cartoon shows on DVD. The people making them don’t seem to salvage that people who watched the shows as children want the entire thing and will peer if its edited. Disappointing, but not enough that I didn’t fork over my $50 to lift this location and I will definitely be enjoying these episodes over and over in the new weeks. ~Hillary is the author of the My Runt Pony Collector’s Inventory

After reading the gushing, swooning review from the DVD critic in last Tuesday’s NY Times, I immediately ordered the “Special Collector’s Edition” of TO Accumulate A THIEF from Amazon. When it arrived, I compared it to my fresh Paramount “Widescreen Edition” from 2002. Well, the critic was right–there’s simply no comparison. This original version has a 2.0 Dolby Surround soundtrack (in addition to the unusual mono version) and a cleaned-up, enhanced, crystal-clear report, open to do. It looks like they took the drab, blurry, worn ancient stock and actually washed it, removing years of dirt and grime and smoke and hair and whatever else was there, not to mention a computerized removal of virtually all scratches and glitches. The result is amazing.

As for the color, gawk for yourself. Pay finish attention to the first car tear down the mountain, the meeting in the flower market, and the costume ball arrive the raze. Not to mention the many night scenes on rooftops, where everything is now grand more visible than before. And Grant and Kelly? Well, the two most resplendent people who ever lived spy even more delicate. Wait till you observe the notorious fireworks scene now!

I don’t have to snort you that this film is extraordinary, no matter which version you have. But I can guarantee you that this newly restored version makes it seem better than ever. If you’re as nuts about Hitchcock as I am, it really is worth the upgrade. Appreciate!

Update (11/8/2009) : The current To Regain a Thief – The Centennial Collection (1955) (2pc) is essentially the same as the 2007 “Special Collector’s Edition,” with the same upgraded print. This review applies to both editions.

This disappear brochure to adventure and romance is one of Alfred Hitchcock’s most engrossing films. The magnificent vistas of the French Riviera are matched perfectly by the heavenly duo of Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. Robert Burks’ cinematography was nominated for an Academy Award and Edith Head gives Grace Kelly the sight of an American princess. A gorgeous screenplay from Michael Hayes based on a unusual by David Dodge, and a light romantic earn from Lyn Murray combine with all the other elements to fabricate this a suitable film classic.

American John Robie (Cary Grant) has been living well in a aesthetic villa on the French Riviera for the past 15 years. Once the most famous thief in France, the man known as “The Cat” has been peaceful for many years. He was in prison during the war when the Germans bombed it. He chose to discontinue and fight with the French Resistance upon his run, and became a myth. It led to his parole, which is rather precarious now that a string of jewel robberies mimicking his loyal style are occuring on the rooftops of the rich.

The French police want him for it, and his mature pals are excited that he’s brought them this unwanted attention after all these years. Since the only method to positive himself is to gather the thief himself, he hooks up with an insurance agent whose company is paying out the claims on all the robberies and begins a game of cat and mouse with the thief. The cheese in the trap is the toothsome Grace Kelly.

Francie Stevens (Kelly) and her mother, Jessie (Jesse Royce Landis), are vacationing on the Riviera. Robie, posing as a travel tycoon from Oregon, wants to maintain they and their diamonds company until the thief strikes. Francie throws off his game, however, when she learns early on who he really is and displays a wild enthusiasm for helping him catch! Robie isn’t there to recall, of course, but has anguish convincing Francie of that when her mother’s jewels are stolen. Coming on the heels of a romantic interlude between the two, it is especially insulting.

That evening together is framed beautifully by Hitchcock, cutting help and forth between the fireworks outside on the Riviera and the fireworks going on inside. Kelly is like a roguish kitten with a gleam in her view, and Grant the older cat, who’s seen her kind of kitten before and isn’t clear he wants to play. There is a fabulous chemistry between the two, who seemed to be made for each other on the camouflage. A wild coast in her sports car along the flee that has Robie a exiguous disturbed and a picnic in radiant dress are a treat to glimpse.

Complicating matters is another sexy kitten, Danielle Foussard (Brigitte Auber) . She is the daughter of one of his conventional pals (Jean Martinelli) and would like nothing better than to rush off with Robie to South America. But she is a different kind of kitten, perhaps harder to handle than Francie. When her father is murdered and pegged as the thief, she lashes out at Robie at his funeral. By this time, Francie’s wise mom has spot her straight about Robie, and together they space a trap for the valid thief at a posh costume ball.

It will lead to an attractive and tantalizing bound on the rooftops as Robie unmasks the imposter. Since he’s enlisted Francie’s assist this time, he is forced to admit he may not be the lone wolf he view he was. There is a terrific conclusion as everyone gets what they want, especially the viewer. Explore speedily for Hitch on the attend seat of the bus Grant uses to evade the police! This is stunning escapist entertainment that you can’t abet but drop in cherish with. A helpful film to gain lost in on any weekend.

This 1997 film stars Vanessa Redgrave as Mrs. Dalloway, the Englishwoman introduced in Virginia Woolf’s 1925 unique. The book passe stream of consciousness to invent an interior monologue for her heroine and the film is legal to that, a voice-over narration letting the viewer know her interior thoughts as she goes about preparing for a party in 1923.

Mrs. Dalloway is now in her sixties, but there are flashbacks to an earlier time, when she was a young woman being pursued by beaus. She has made her choices now and has married a cabinet member and leads a comfortable life as his charming wife. In her youth she rejected the suitor who looked for adventure in India as well as the tentative hint of a friendship with a woman, which might have gone further. When both of them note up at her party, her memories surface. There’s also a sub-story of a young man who has been shell-shocked from combat in The Gigantic War and the theme of suicide runs strong throughout the position. Even though he and Mrs. Dalloway never meet, it is certain why this character was introduced. And it is also engrossing to imprint that Virginia Woolf herself committed suicide in 1941 at the age of 59.

Casting is pleasant, acting trustworthy. Everything is understated but yet very very distinct. I also loved the cinematography and the setting of a very sterling London in 1923, especially the costumes. The theme is universal as we all do eye aid on our lives and wonder what might have been. Also, at only 97 minutes long, the video was exactly the proper length. Definitely recommended.

If you are a fan of either the current or film The Hours, then reading and watching Mrs. Dalloway is a must. The Hours was Virginia Woolf’s fresh title for Mrs. Dalloway. Michael Cunningham cleverly took that title and turned into a modern that matches Mrs. Dalloway for its shear beauty. But this is a movie review and I can mumble you that Vanessa Redgrave is colorful in the title role. She should have been nominated for an Oscar at the very least. A day in the life of Clarissa Dalloway, planning a party, remembering her life and loves. It’s a sparkling adaptation from Woolf’s recent. And of course begins with “Mrs. Dalloway decided she would seize the flowers herself.” Steal this yourself. You won’t regret it.

This documentary was originally created and broadcast by the BBC and then NOVA purchased it for U.S. Public Television. However, NOVA cleave about 14 minutes of footage to include plugs for other NOVA programs. I am hoping this DVD release will establish that time serve.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Absolute Zero – NOVA! Click Here

This program traces the scientific evolution of the search for absolute zero, from the 17th century through today. It is extremely well done. Like many such programs, it takes high notion science (in this case physics) and brings it to the people. There are reenactments, interviews with experts in the field, and historical footage. The rivalries between past scientists, and the repercussions of such, are frankly examined. The creators did a noble job making the topic approachable without condescending to a non-scientist audience. For the first time, I was able to purchase such concepts as the Bose-Einstein Condensate, absolute zero and how lasers can “icy” atoms. I work at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, where Eric Cornell did his Nobel Prize-winning work (at Jilla) . He is featured in the documentary and easily expresses in layman’s terms the ideas and methods his team aged. There is some humor throughout the allotment (including how he forgot to bow to the king while accepting his Nobel Prize!) to lighten the subject matter. Objective recently NIST hosted a lecture with Russell Donnelly, the physicist who helped spearhead this documentary. He worked in chilly temperature physics, and was asked for input to the book “Absolute Zero and the Conquest of Chilly.” When he looked through the book he was dismayed to scrutinize no graphs, or photos or any “science.” But once he started reading, he was amazed at how the author told the tale of the science through the lives of the scientistis. He realized it would beget a big documentary that could advance out to the public – whose aid helps sustain funding for such endeavors. He also spoke about the extensive process of requesting a grant from NSF, working with the BBC and then NOVA to save this together. He showed footage from the documetary itself and I was amazed at the quality. Unfortunately, when NOVA broadcast the reveal in January it went up against the Current Hampshire notable and then the American Idol premier. Yet, it calm managed to map millions of viewers. I am gay they are releasing it on DVD. I would like to rewatch it, and have the ability to rewind clear points that I may have missed.

Overall, I highly recommend this program to everyone. It would be a huge tool for high school science teachers, for fans of Carl Sagan’s “Cosmos,” and of The National Geographic Channel and other such venues.

Having watched this program on TV with fascination, I could not wait long enough to earn the DVD. When it arrived, watching it confirmed my idea that this is one of the most stimulating programs ever. Suitable to gape again, and again, and with a gap, even again!

Love the Flintstones. Have been waiting for a nice priced complete region. Unfortunately the paper sleeves for the discs WILL kill up scratching the dvds. Im distinct some will be scratched upon catch . So I will rep the single sets. I recommend people purchase those instead. Remarkable nicer cases and only about about $15.95 more (105.94 for all the single sets) than that the funny looking box the complete area comes in. Course Im composed giving it four stars for the episodes.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Flintstones: The Complete Series! Click Here

UPDATE: The regular sets have now been achieve assist to their regular effect of around $32. So its not so obedient a deal anymore. I guess you could wait for them to be on sale again or unbiased occupy your chances with the complete place. Plus theres no modern bonus material so the only thing your getting EXTRA is the Unsightly ORANGE BOX. This status is basically the orignal six season sets repackaged. Again I deem its best to wait for helpful prices on the single sets. The packaging is worthy more convienent.

Just received the location and it’s okay being the whole series is here but it’s no different from the novel 6 sets. I would have liked it better if they included maybe a book or something besides the disks like the Batman Engrossing series box region does.

It mentions 4.5 hours of extras leading me to absorb they added more extras but that’s not the case. The extras are the same as in the individual sets.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Flintstones: The Complete Series! Click Here

Packaging comes in 2 booklets made of cheap cardboard with very tight sleeves to insert the disks. This can and will cause some scratches on the disk being it’s tight. About half my discs do have visible scratches on them. The booklets are nice with impartial the episode titles of each disc listed on them.

I abominate the shocking orange case so i got rid of it and kept the 2 booklets.

So i give a 3 star rating for the remark, and minus 2 stars for lack of anything extra from the current sets.

A review of the life of Industrial Workers of the World (IWW, also known as Wobblies) leader Ample Bill Haywood. An appreciation of the role of the Wobblies in early 20th century labor history by American Trotskyist leader (and venerable Wobblie) James P. Cannon. An urgent call to succor veteran time Wobblie folksinger/storyteller Utah Phillips. A reading of a biography of “Rebel Girl” Elizabeth Gurley Flynn (later, unfortunately, an unrepentant Stalinist hack) . And now a DVD review of the film The Wobblies. For a writer who holds no truck with anarcho-syndicalist solutions to the problems of the class struggle this certainly has nevertheless turned into the Year of the Wobblie. And, dear friends, that is as it should be. Before the formation of the American Communist Party in the immediate aftermath of World War I the Wobblies were, front and center, the central revolutionary labor organization in this country. We honor those struggles, the memory of those passe comrades and try to learn the lessons from their fights. And that, ultimately, is the beauty of the film under review.

Most docudramas or documentaries are filled with learned `talking heads’ telling us what the historical significance of this or that event meant. And that conception has its station in our search for concept of our history, respectable or awful. The filmmakers had seemingly gone out and found every last used time imperfect and file or middle level cadre Wobblie that detached uttered breathe at the time of the film creation (1979) . Here we earn the negate, sometimes loud, sometimes confused, sometimes haltingly, sometimes not very articulately telling the sage of the Wobblies down at the base-the plot where all class struggle ultimately has to be resolved.

We hear venerable itinerant lumberjacks; migrant farm workers, hobos and `stiffs’ win their say. And frankly it is very nice for change of bolt. Damn, I wish we had some of those, ragged as they were, feisty labor militants around today. These were the American equivalent of the scandalous and file of the Russian Bolshevik organization. They characterize the memory of the class in better times. Interspersed in between interviews is capable film footage of some of the early labor struggles (some that I had never seen before like the Bisbee, Arizona deportations-to the Fresh Mexico border- of the copper mine strikers in 1917) . And in the background accompanying the footage many of the aged Wobblie labor songs created by Joe Hill and others in order to bolster labor solidarity. Ah, those were the times.

Note: This film gives a satisfactory chronology of the development of the IWW from its founding in 1905 to the hard times during World War I and its aftermath. It provides less information about latter times. Moreover, outside the opinions of the various old-fashioned Wobblies it is hard to derive a sense of the disputes in the organization, and there were many particularly about the relationship with the Russian Revolution in 1917, and what caused the failure of the passe organization (apart from the positive destructive role of the government crackdowns) . For more on the politics check my entries in this residence on James P. Cannon on the IWW and the Life of Tremendous Bill Haywood.

“To be people, not nobody”–that, according to a Patterson, NJ, woman interviewed in the film “The Wobblies,” was what she and her fellow-workers wanted to be. And after enduring both the exploitation of the bosses and the apparent indifferent of the worn labor unions, they believed they found the vehicle to humanity in the Industrial Workers of the World, the “one astronomical union” founded in Chicago in 1905.

“Wobblies” is the tale of the IWW, from its origins to its approach destruction during World War I. Disliked by industrialists and labor leaders alike, the IWW was really the only radical workers organization the US has ever spawned. It common everyone who earned a wage, crossing all color lines in a day and age when the more venerable labor unions refused to admit people of color. Led by stalwarts such as Enormous Bill Haywood and Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, the IWW grew in strength from skim to glide, organizing first lumberjacks and miners, and then factory workers, stevedores, and other unskilled laborers. It fought the Lawrence textile mills in 1912 and won; the Patterson factories in 1913, and lost; the the railroads on the Pacific hover in 1917, and won again. It was an up and coming force, and it timid the heck out of the political and financial powers that be.

So in 1917, with Woodrow Wilson’s blessing, the government busted the IWW on rigged charges that it encouraged young men to resist serving in the armed forces. Virtually all the leadership was sentenced to astonishing prison sentences under the Espionage Act, and the Wobblies, already beginning to splinter internally from feuds between anarchist and communist members, declined.

But it was a tall and comely dream. One of the things that comes through most clearly in the interviews with now quite broken-down Wobblies is how relate, sparkling, and even now idealistic they approach across. There is a dignity to them of people who have fought the noble fight, even though they eventually lost.

Another very sterling aspect of “The Wobblies” is the director’s wise focus on song. The martyred songwriter Joe Hill is, of course, well-known blueprint beyond IWW circles. Thanks to Hill and others, Wobblies throughout the country were inspired and educated by dozens of songs. The old-timers interviewed in the film can collected grunt them by the boatload.

When I was a young man working my map through college by taking one crappy job after another, I got radicalized and joined the Wobblies. My membership lapsed years and years ago. But seeing this film makes me reflect that I ought to trace up again. Perhaps the dream isn’t listless after all…

So the commercials all promote Jackie Chan and Jet Li. What they neglect to do is mention, I dunno, the **main character** of the film, a young Boston kid named Jason Tripitikas (played by Michael Anganaro) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Forbidden Kingdom! Click Here

So the movie’s basically a kid film. You have a reluctant hero who gets sent to a fantasy version of China, and along the map he learns martial arts and Eastern philosophy.

What did I like about it? The fight scenes are, for the most fragment, improbable. They open off a small obsolete, regain better over time, and then obtain absolutely astounding when you have both Jet Li and Jackie Chan in the film. The fight scenes are weakest when there’s too powerful CGI in them — but most of them are purely physical, and quite honorable.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Forbidden Kingdom! Click Here

The Chinese fantasy aspects are authentic, if not right (distinguished in the same diagram the HBO series Rome is not a completely upright recounting of events, but an authentic recreation of the tone of archaic Rome) . They throw in things like The Monkey King and his golden staff, soldier monks, drunken immortals and even The Bride With White Hair. And the Chinese philosophy, for those familiar with it, is state on.

Jackie Chan and Jet Li are astonishing not only as fighters, but comedically as well. (There’s a scene consuming rain that had absolutely everyone in the theater laughing hard.) Anganaro puts in a surprising turn physically — he looks like he got a lot of martial training. Yifei Liu is heartbreakingly heavenly.

It’s probably a petite scary for young kids — there is some intense violence in the beginning, for instance. And there are sappy moments, as you would demand for a kid’s film. But it means well. I have to say that I had a bit of distress making out the English of some of the Chinese actors sometimes, tho — and I’m Chinese-American! I danger others might have even worse problems.

Still, overall, I liked it.

Pop……..POP…. POPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOP!

Ok rob that popcorn out of the microwave, grab your cola, and state the lights down vulgar and find ready for some kung-fu action.

At first see, the movie seems to be fleshy oh wired choreographed fight scenes which I fair distinguished disapprove. But the movie took the scenes and made them `ok’. It was like it was telling us “Yes, we know you know it’s wires, but you and we are ok with it”. And I was. It starts with The Monkey King kicking some butt up on top of a deceptive looking mountain top, and then *poof* we score out that it was all but a dream. Jason Tripitikas wakes up and heads to his common pawn shop down in Chinatown to purchase up some more kung-fu movies. As Jason is heading out of Chinatown, he gets stopped by some local thugs/bullies. They execute fun of him about his kung-fu movies and then expose him some of their gain fighting style. After the beat down they inform him to pick them to the pawn shop so they can consume the residence. The archaic man, gleaming a few moves himself, takes it to them, but only cheated out of the grace of fighting like a man, by a single bullet. Jason runs from the thugs with a staff that the obsolete man hands him. As Jason tries to find away, he falls and lands…

…in a different world in a different time. He comes across a man named Lu Yan (Chan) who tells him about his staff. That it once belonged to mighty man named The Monkey King. The Monkey King was tricked into a non glorious fight and before the King was imprisoned he sent his staff away so that someone could reach rescue him with it. They bewitch it’s Jason, but is it? As they fade to where the Monkey King is imprisoned they arrive across Golden Sparrow. A girl seeking revenge for her family’s death. They also approach across The Still Monk (Li), who is also on a mission to free the Monkey King. With their journeys intertwined, we can only hope for some sweet Kung-Fu action. And boy do we fetch it.

Jackie Chan vs. Jet Li was truly fun to look. We all know it could’ve been Great better if they were probably 10 or 15 years younger than they are, but advance on, it was tranquil a titanic fight scene. Praying Mantis, Snake, Tiger, Crane, all types of Kung-Fu was extinct. It was definitely something to seek.

The Monkey King vs. The Jade Emperor, even though CGI enhanced and wire enhanced, was splendid awesome. It made the fact that they were godlike characters more believable. The CG passe for this was spectacular and looked finish to being actual.

And there were many more scenes where Lu Yan, The Mute Monk, the Golden Sparrow are fighting all types of people. You won’t be bored with a lack of Kung-Fu.

I also liked how there was a white haired woman bounty hunter after them. When she fought her hair became allotment of arsenal along with a whip she carried. Now I’ve seen some Kung-Fu flicks with people using their long hair before and the design it seems groundless, always made it big. In this movie, when she starts to whip her hair around, it’s CG looking (but once again this does not damage it), until it hits the person. For instance on one scene it’s got Lu Yan grabbing her hair and looks totally fallacious, but at the same time fantastic. It felt like a throwback to some of the older movies. Man I loved it.

Some people are complaining that this was too kiddy. Well, I can inspect where they are coming from because there isn’t a deep legend here. It did feel like it was more geared towards a `not really having to consider about it’ crowd. And you know what. Pleasant. I don’t always have to contemplate about stuff when I’m watching a safe action flick. I actually had a blast watching this because I assume if it took itself to seriously, most of the fight scenes would have been `eye rolling’ instead of astounding.

In the waste I would say grab this movie up as soon as you can and sit the kids down with a gargantuan Papa Johns pizza and have a fun time.

P.S. The design the fable was place up, with the kid going from reality into an almost storybook epic, to reach relieve into reality with things he learned… it sort of makes me assume of The Never Ending Memoir but with Kung-Fu instead of a huge flying dog.
